Robert Neil “Chum” Haynes, passed away surrounded by family on January 20, 2013, at his home in Wetmore. He was born June 17, 1939 in the family home in Wetmore to the late Floyd Willis and Gladys Irene (Painter) Haynes. Chum graduated from Florence High School in 1958. Upon his father's death four months later, he took over the family ranch. He worked tirelessly to ensure his mother was able to live out her life in her own home on the ranch. Along with farming and ranching, he worked as a carpenter in Colorado Springs for 20 years. He then worked in the maintenance department for the RE-2 school district. He retired in 2008 after 20 years of service. He married Corinne Kay Fields on June 18, 1961. He was a very devoted family man. His love for his family and friends was obvious to those who knew him. Chum was a member of the Colorado Rebels Riding Club, Florence Saddle Club, and Southern Colorado Horseman’s Association. Later in his life, he joined the USTRC. He had a passion for farming and ranching. His most beloved and prized possessions were his horses and he established Haynes Quarter Horses. He took great pride in raising them for his granddaughters to use in their rodeo events. He thoroughly enjoyed riding, roping and competing with "his girls" on the horses he raised. He is preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn daughter Tracy, sisters Vera Irene Schmidt, and Glenna Fabrizio, brother, Leonard Haynes, brother-in-laws Carl Schmidt, Art Fabrizio, and John Pugliano. He is survived by his wife Corinne Haynes (Fields), daughter Stephanie (Dave) Smith, granddaughters, Brooke & Keely Smith, brother Kenneth (Betty) Haynes, sister Gloria Pugliano, numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Crossroads Event Center in Penrose, CO on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 1:30PM. Pastor Gail Allen will officiate the service. The family would like you to join them following the service for a potluck at the arena. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be sent to the family, P.O. Box 97, Wetmore, CO 81253.
